NewsBank of Tanzania to Conduct Quarterly Survey of Companies with Foreign Liabilities In Tanzania, 2021

The Bank of Tanzania (BOT) in collaboration with Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) will conduct a quarterly survey of companies with foreign liabilities in Tanzania, in 2021 during August – October 2021 as communicated in their joint Press Release of 10 August 2021. The survey will be conducted through selected establishments that will be requested to provide quarterly data for the 01st two quarters of 2021 (i.e., January – June 2021) together with per annum data for 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Since 2000, these 3 Government institutions have been conducting per annum surveys of companies with foreign liabilities with a view to assessing the impact of foreign private investments on the economy, update the country’s Balance of Payments (BoF) and International Investment Position (IIP) and for policy formulation and/or decisions.

According to the statement, it obliges the participants to the survey to cooperate with the survey team, to provide required data by completing distributed survey questionnaires accurately; to provide the survey team with institution’s audited financial statements for the year 2020 or provisional financial statements or best estimates, as the case may be; to provide copies of management accounts for the 2 quarters of 2021, and to observe the deadline of 1 week for the completion of the questionnaires after its receipt. Data to be gathered from respondents will be strictly used for statistical purposes and to be published in an aggregate form.

The survey will be conducted pursuant to section 6(b) of the Tanzania Investment Act, Cap. 38; Section 34 the Statistics Act, Cap. 351; and section 57 of the Bank of Tanzania Act, Cap. 197. As such, submission of the requested data is compulsory, and compliance is therefore mandatory. Selected establishments are advised to fully cooperate with a view to achieving the intended objective.
