The Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 6) Act, 2019 that came into effect from 19th September 2019 makes amendments to the Penal Code, Cap. 16 to criminalize the act of taking and using for any form of communication photos, pictures, videos or images of corpses, dead persons, victims of crimes or gruesome incidents. The amendments impose a fine of not less than 1 million Tanzania Shillings or imprisonment of not less than one year or both.

Nevertheless, it is not a criminal offence taking and using for any form of communication photos, pictures, videos or images of corpses, dead persons, victims of crimes or gruesome incidents for criminal investigations, burial ceremonies and where a person is authorized by the police or authorized officers.
