FIN & LAW celebrated the world intellectual property day held on 26th April, 2019 by undertaking a joint training with the Copyright Society of Tanzania (COSOTA). The event was held at COSOTA offices in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania whereby among others, the training conducted focused on Intellectual Property and Sports. The theme aimed at raising awareness to the effective use of Intellectual Property rights and its opportunities in sports and related activities.
COSOTA is a Government institution established by the Copyright and Neighboring Act, 1999 which promotes and protect the interests of authors, performers, translators, producers of sound recordings, broadcasters, publishers, and, in particular, to collect and distribute any royalties or other remuneration accorded to them in respect of their rights. COSOTA currently resolve copyright disputes through mediation. COSOTA entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to cooperate in Alternative Dispute Resolutions (ADR) in resolving copyright disputes through WIPO alternative dispute resolution options.
